about the therapist

A lifelong creative, Corey Rowland (NC LMBT #23009) studied studio art and received a Masters in Art Education at Florida State University. He went on to teach middle and high school art in public schools for 7 years. One of the aspects of this work that Corey always loved was the relationship building and the progress and growth he would see in his students.

Like many massage therapists, Corey was impacted by receiving massage himself. He has always valued health and wellness, so massage felt like a natural direction to take. His experiences with yoga, meditation, and various physical activities such as weightlifting, cycling, rock climbing, and dancing all reinforced his commitment to the development of the mind, body, and spirit.

He received his foundational massage training at the Western North Carolina School of Massage in Asheville, NC. This 700-hour program includes a 100-hour certification in Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT).

Corey sees every session, first and foremost, as a chance to offer a supportive and grounding experience for his clients. There are a variety of reasons someone may seek massage therapy, and he is interested in supporting the unique goals of each client. In addition to the work with the body, he enjoys educating clients about self-care strategies that promote general well-being and longevity.

about steadyground

In developing the vision for SteadyGround Bodywork, Corey imagined a marriage of two values:

1) clinical bodywork that addresses pain, promotes mobility, & helps people live their fullest lives. To be effective at meeting the diverse needs of clients, the therapist must “know their stuff” and be reliable. A strong knowledge base in anatomy, use of research-informed treatment methods, and a principle of client empowerment all support tangible outcomes.

2) creativity & presence. While intellectual understanding is incredibly important, it can only get one so far. What good is a highly skilled massage therapist if they aren’t present with their client?

Beyond thought, there is another type of intelligence that guides a therapist’s hands, a deeper “knowing” of what is needed in a given moment. Trusting this intuition allows a massage therapist to work with their client in co-creating a therapeutic and healing space.

Quite simply, the intention is to incorporate both knowledge and wisdom, just as both a left and right foot are needed to walk.
